SAVE TREES
‘Express Care’, an initiative by The New Indian Express, involves the distribution of seed balls and plants across the state for planting.
The New Indian Express officials visited Sri Gopal Naidu Higher Secondary School to explain the importance of planting and the use of seed balls.
Officials emphasized that seed balls should be planted so that half of each ball is buried while the other half remains above ground during the rainy season when the soil is soft.
The aim of the drive, they stated, is to ensure that the state has enough fruit-bearing trees in the future. This will help make seasonal fruits, which are often recommended by doctors for boosting immunity, available in abundance at affordable prices.
School Headmaster Mr. Soundararaj shared his insights on seed balls, also known as earth balls. These contain seeds of various plants mixed with clay, prepared using humus or compost and microbial inoculants, utilizing common and locally available ingredients.
Administrative Officer Mr. Ravikumar mentioned that having at least one fruit a day is deemed crucial by doctors for developing strong immunity.
AHM Mr. Jaikumar stated, "If we grow these plants across the state in our fields and open spaces today, then tomorrow there will be no scarcity of seasonal fruits.”
Mr. Ram from The New Indian Express noted that their team is reaching out to several schools to educate students about the importance of cultivating fruit-bearing plants and consuming seasonal fruits to prevent diseases. They also distributed plants and seed balls to students.
